I wasn't worried about the Houston Press because the quote there as mentioned by Fuller was the same as that in the Atlanta Constitution. I have verified that based on footnotes that appear in other publications including Jerry Clark's UFO Encyclopedia. Clark, for example gives the name of the writer and then the headline which all matches so I am confident that it is the Atlanta Constitution.

There are quotes around the prop wash idea in that earlier article. The quote attributed to Blackburn by Fuller seemed to have originated with the story in the Atlanta Constitution... So, even if the Houston Press story can' be located at this date, I think I have the source of the actual quote, which, of course, doesn't do us any good because Riley interviewed Chiles within hours of the sighting... Chiles statement is dated August 3 which puts it about nine days after the sighting... which is to say he allegedly signed it then but it might have been taken earlier.KRandlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06333125414889883920noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11558306.post-53838652647586416772017-03-06T17:26:35.223-08:002017-03-06T17:26:35.223-08:00Tim -

I also have a clipping from the Blue Book file that doesn't provide the newspaper but does suggest there was turbulence when the object (meteor? bolide?) flashed by. These early references caught me a bit by surprise and one of them does mention the incident yesterday. Given that, which is to say, that while I didn't have the Houston Press story in hand, I did find other references that suggests both Chiles and Whitted mention it to reporters within hours of the sighting.

I am of the opinion that they saw a bolide, the Zond IV reentry seems to strengthen that belief, but those references in early newspaper stories is puzzling.KRandlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06333125414889883920noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11558306.post-45618224605847630582017-03-06T17:18:21.272-08:002017-03-06T17:18:21.272-08:00I found a similar story in the Lowell Sun of July ...I found a similar story in the Lowell Sun of July 24th. It is a UP story, which is probably where the tidbit originated. In that article, it stated: As the aircraft passed them, their DC-3 fluttered in the “prop wash, jet-wash or rocket-wash,” the pilots said. “It sent out tremendous shock waves.” Tim Printyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06115389684481839803noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11558306.post-27507676031605224132017-03-06T16:30:18.247-08:002017-03-06T16:30:18.247-08:00Kevin,
