There is nothing to corroborate this claim, though the claim itself tends to unmine any credibility he might have had.

On the other hand, Newton, according to various records, court documents, and newspaper articles was a con man from nearly the very beginning. Jerry might have chosen a better source for a quote about Newton, but the fact is, Newton worked cons his entire life and was exposed by J.P. Cahn among others.

Jerry's point was not to trash the book, but to provide an accurate review of it. There is nothing substanial in it, it is filled with misdirection and irrelevant information and contains more than a few inaccuracies. I agree with Jerry on this. The book is not worth our time.KRandlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06333125414889883920noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11558306.post-78019610159611289542012-11-08T16:31:30.926-08:002012-11-08T16:31:30.926-08:00'..Characterized wryly by Moore as "the t...'..Characterized wryly by Moore as "the type of character best avoided by anyone with money in his pocket," Newton got into trouble in the 1930s in New York, Kansas, and California for assorted shady dealings...'

I've read that William Moore kept his work for the C.I.A. secret from the 'UFO community' for a long time. Is this the sort of man we ought to trust to be a good judge on the integrity or sincerity of another human being? Is this the sort of man we can trust to do honest research, without any concealed agenda? Jerome Clark seems to think so, and I am extremely puzzled.

Was not William Moore, himself, involved in "shady dealings" with other 'ufologists' when he concealed his C.I.A. agenda from them?

Jerome Clark writes as if this were a matter of no consequence to him.

All he cares about is trashing this book.Daniel Transithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02936796213773640538noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11558306.post-14593666892783950412012-10-29T07:47:12.001-07:002012-10-29T07:47:12.001-07:00A typically brilliant (and brilliantly written) pi...A typically brilliant (and brilliantly written) piece, by one of our most brilliant UFOlogists.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04516272733125600841noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11558306.post-12208098610256293852012-10-29T05:32:41.975-07:002012-10-29T05:32:41.975-07:00Kurt -

They, meaning those at JSE, have a number of writers to whom they go for reviews. I'm not sure how they select the writers for the reviews, but they seem to rotate the task... So, had JSE not asked Jerry to write the review, I suspect he would have avoided the book... except as an odd curiosity that dealt with a well-known hoax.KRandlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06333125414889883920noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11558306.post-52940008834415569032012-10-28T21:55:14.701-07:002012-10-28T21:55:14.701-07:00KRandle -

You seem to think because he wrote the Introduction and makes that wild claim that the evidence is persuasive. It is not.

There is nothing of substance in the book, it is filled with errors and leaps of logic. There is no documentation for the crash, nothing in the newspapers of the time and the local residents, when interviewed many times over the years said nothing happened.

Frankly, I am stunned that anyone takes the book seriously given the lack of anything of substance that is reported in it... and to suggest that Stan's Introduction somehow alters the facts is difficult to understand.KRandlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06333125414889883920noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11558306.post-29331826550155892672012-10-28T09:55:22.321-07:002012-10-28T09:55:22.321-07:00How can it go unmentioned that Stanton Friedman pr...How can it go unmentioned that Stanton Friedman provides the introduction for this book?
