The Latest Data Dump and the Utah Movie

Well, I can see why we are getting nowhere with the continued data dumps from the government about UFOs. Fox News reported that Peter Doocy was at a White House briefing where they showed an incredible bit of film that, I guess, Doocy thought had been hidden in an archive since 1952. He didn’t even get a good copy of it to show on the air. You can see his report here:

This is, of course the Delbert Newhouse film taken near Tremonton, Utah in July 1952. I had an opportunity to speak with Newhouse, as did Ed Ruppelt and others. Newhouse made it clear that he, his wife and children saw the objects from the car. Newhouse said they were oval shaped and had moved off before he could get his camera out of the trunk and begin filming.

And I wrote about the film on several occasions, including an entry in my book, Scientific Ufology, and in an early article in Official UFO magazine. Bernie O’Connor, who was an editor at the magazine has recently published a book that reprints that early article, as well as many other articles from those first issues. It provides an interesting take on the state of UFO research in the 1970s and is available on Amazon, of course.

Of course, the point here is that Doocy’s report is misleading. He seems to believe that this is something new but never bothered to type “Delbert Newhouse,” into his search engine to find out a little more about the “Utah Movie.”

This underscores my point. These massive releases of information contain a great deal of old material that has been in the public area for decades. We have reporters excited about some of the files but can’t even be bothered to do an Internet search about them. Had Doocy bothered, his report would have had a different spin, but it would have lost its suggestion of something new.
