ALLEGED ROSWELL WITNESS UPDATE

(Blogger’s Note: I’m sure that you all remember the stir caused by the revelation of yet another eyewitness to the Roswell UFO crash. This was Charles Forgus whose story was told in Dr. Irena Scott’s book, UFOs TODAY, 70 Years of Lies, Misinformation and Government Cover-Up. Here, is the update on that story, supplied by Philip Mantle who has communicated with Forgus family members. This takes the story out of the Roswell narrative, but indicates that it deserves a footnote in it.)

Information and story by
Philip Mantle

In June 2017, I released the testimony of the late Deputy Sheriff Charles Forgus who claimed that he had been a witness to the UFO crash at Roswell in 1947. He was the Deputy Sheriff in Big Springs, Texas after serving in the military during WWII.

In brief, he claimed that he was en-route to Roswell with the Sheriff, Jess Slaughter, to pick up a prisoner. When approaching the Roswell area, they heard about the crash on the Police radio and drove to the area in question. Once there they observed the recovery of a 110-foot UFO and dead alien bodies before being told to leave the area. This testimony was given to a US private investigator by the name of Deanna Short. Sadly, this lady had also passed away. There is a video interview of Mr Forgus where he details these events.

This testimony was investigated by myself and Irena Scott PhD the Mutual UFO Network. Dr Scott revealed the full information in her book ‘UFOs TODAY, 70 Years of Lies, Misinformation and Government Cover-Up’ and I published it in various UFO publications and it was also featured in the online editions of several of the UK’s national newspapers.

One of the reasons for releasing the testimony of the late Charles Forgus was in the hope that either a family member of a friend might come forward with some further information. We knew this was along shot but there was no reason why we should not give it a try.

It therefore came as a surprise that I was contacted via social media on July 17th by a nephew of the late Deputy Sheriff Forgus. He does not wish his name used in public but I do have it on file. This is what the nephew had to say:

Hello, I just discovered the video you posted of the interview with CH Forgus. He was my uncle. Interestingly, he never spoke to us about this incident when I was young and I only recently found out about the story from an east coast MUFON investigator. I can tell you, he is not a person who would have fabricated this story. He was very straight laced and no-nonsense type of person...that's why he was in law enforcement. I have the full transcript of the interview if you would like to read and post it. Thank you.

Quite naturally I replied and informed the nephew that I already had the transcript in question as it was me who had released it. He went on to add, “One thing I will mention, my uncles' sighting was not at Roswell. He was a deputy in 1953. I have a very good MUFON report I will forward to you on the event.”

Again, I thanked him for this and I have the MUFON report in question. MUFON had researched the claims of Deputy Sheriff Forgus and had speculated that he might have been witness to an event in 1953 and not 1947.  One thing that is certain is that the Sheriff he stated he was with at the time, Jess Slaughter, was not the Sheriff in 1947. He was a Sheriff in the 1930’s and the 1950’s but not the 1940’s.

The nephew supplied me with his email address and he added to his comments on July 19th:

I don’t have any other pictures of him. He has a son, Glen Lee Forgus, and a daughter Toma Forgus, but I haven’t kept in touch with them.  I know Glen Lee lives in California and he has two daughters as well.  I found a phone listing a few months ago and called Glen Lee and left a message, but never got a response. I would guess CH spoke to them, but I don’t have any current contact information.  We were not a close family.

The only other person that might know the story is his nephew, Charles Buzzbee in Big Spring, Texas. You might try and contact him.  His mother was CH’s sister. I would also believe he would have mentioned it to his brother, my father, but if you knew the Forgus family and west Texans in particular, Uncle CH would have been roundly made fun of for sharing his experience. That’s what assures me all the more that he is telling the truth.  He was ex-military and ex-law enforcement and was not the type of a person to make up a story like this. I knew him well and can tell you his personality was not one that liked or sought the spotlight.  He was also not an imaginative person to create such a story.

He was very straight laced like all of the Forgus men and women for that matter. It was certainly a very different time when they grew up and my father’s family grew up very poor. So, they were extremely pragmatic and not ones for hyperbole. They believed only what they could see and hold.

I hope this is of some help.

The nephew has supplied me [Philip Mantle] with two contact numbers and addresses of these other family members and I am in the process of contacting both of them as we speak. If I get a reply I will of course let you know.

Unfortunately, the nephew could shed no light on the claims made by his late uncle but we feel vindicated in releasing this material as we did as it has brought this gentleman forward who in turn has supplied the details of another two, family members. Whether they will be able to offer any further information remains to be seen.

X-Zone Broadcast Network - Dr. Irena Scott

Dr. Irena Scott
This week I spoke with Dr. Irena McCammon Scott who had published the book, UFO’s Today: 70 Years of Lies, Misinformation and Government Coverup. I had hoped that we would be able to talk about what was new in the book and when I asked, she pointed to a tale of Cordell Hull who had talked about alien bodies stored under the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. The problem is that the tale is not new and was reported in the International UFO Reporter in the winter 2001 – 2002 issue. There doesn’t seem to be much in the way of corroboration for the story. You can listen to the interview here:

(And, as always, you can find it on YouTube by searching A Different Perspective with Kevin Randle. Just add Dr. Scott’s name.)

We did speak at length about the Kenneth Arnold sighting, and I wanted to know more about Maury Island where a damaged UFO had touched down, leaving some debris behind. Although we talked about the story being a hoax, Dr. Scott fell back on the position that it was a hoax, but there was a Men in Black component in it. She didn’t know that one of the witnesses, Fred Crisman, had been in contact with Ray Palmer, the science fiction editor year or two earlier and who had leaped onto the flying saucer bandwagon the first chance he got. The Men in Black were probably Crisman and his partner Harold Dahl, who seemed to be leaking everything to the newspaper and frightening poor old Ken Arnold. Arnold believed his hotel room had been bugged because of the articles in the newspaper. I don’t think we ever got through that, but I gave it a try.

We did speak briefly about the nonsensical story of Charles H. Forgus, the Texas deputy sheriff who claimed to have seen the crash site and the bodies of the alien creatures found near Roswell. I reported on this a while back and you can read the story here:

John Keel was Right - Another New Roswell Witness

Well, it’s happened again, just as John Keel said it would. As I have mentioned before, Keel had written in 1991 that by the end of the century (meaning going into the 21st century) there would be dozens of people, if not hundreds, claiming to have been in Roswell at the time of the UFO crash. Another one has appeared on the scene by the name of Charles H. Forgus, a soldier who served during the Second World War and who was a deputy sheriff in 1947. No, he wasn’t a deputy in Roswell but one in Big Spring, Texas, which is Howard County.

Here’s how this plays out. According to him, he, with the Sheriff in Big Spring, had traveled to Roswell to pick up a prisoner. While they were on their way, they heard, over the police radio, about the flying saucer crash. They drove out to the site, saw hundreds of soldiers, though Forgus didn’t know which branch of the service they were in (the US Army on their fatigues should have been a big clue), and saw a huge disk crashed into the side of a mountain.

He was asked if there were lights on the craft and he said, “No, they went out when it banged into the wall in the creek. It was like a mountain on the side of the creek.” (Though I’m not sure how he would have known that the lights went out when it hit because he wasn’t there.)

He also said, “We couldn’t see that well because of the trees. It was in a riverbank. It slammed into a river bank. I saw them lifting one up with the crane.”

I recognized the place he was talking about. I had been there, I had walked the land and I knew that there was no creek or river there but from the picture that had been printed in The Truth about the UFO Crash at Roswell, it looked as if there was. You can see for yourself that his description matches the picture except for the water.

He added, “The saucer hit the bank on this side of the creek and I was standing on the other side of the bank, at the top of the hill. I was looking down at the site…” (This is the point of view of the picture.)

Kaufmann's alleged crash site. Photo copyright by Kevin Randle.

This is what Frank Kaufmann had said as well. Same description of the craft having hit the side of the canyon wall near what looked like a creek or river. Of course, we all know that Kaufmann’s testimony has been discredited. And if Forgus is describing the scene as if he was standing on a cliff some distance away, then his tale is bogus as well.

Forgus added some detail that is interesting, but also somewhat contradictory. I know this because I have been to that place. From where he was allegedly standing, he said he could see the bodies, though he didn’t have a good description of them. He talked about the big eyes. He said, “They eyes looked like the ones we see on television and the pictures of them.”

But he was so far away, according to him, it is difficult to believe that he would have seen the eyes. The real clue is about having seen alien creatures on television. He just picked the most popular version of the aliens to describe.

Here’s another nugget. According to several of the witnesses, and this includes CIC agent, Bill Rickett, William Woody and former part owner of KGFL radio Jud Roberts, the roads out to the area had been blocked and the crash site was cordoned off. Forgus and his sheriff wouldn’t have been able to get anywhere near the site before they would have been stopped by the military. Forgus made it clear that the military was already there with hundreds of soldiers, a big crane and trucks to remove the craft (Can you say “Alien Autopsy?”). If that is true, then the cordons were up and a sheriff from Texas wouldn’t have been allowed to penetrate it. He and Forgus would have been stopped before they got close enough to see anything at all simply because they weren’t military, they weren’t the local law enforcement and they had no legal authority in New Mexico.

The other part of the story that fails is that they heard about this on the police radio, which seems unlikely, but even if that had been true, they wouldn’t have heard instructions on how to find the place. You can’t see it from the main roads, and the gravel and dirt roads into the area are quite rough and quite confusing. If you don’t know where you are going, you’d get lost. Without someone leading them in, or precise directions which wouldn’t have been broadcast, they would never have found their way to the crash site.

This story was uncovered by Philip Mantle and was told to Deanna Bever in 1999, a Los Angeles private investigator. The tale appears in the book, UFOs Today: 70 Years of Lies, Disinformation and Government Cover-Up by Irena McCammon Scott, Ph.D. and published by Flying Disk Press. It was edited by Philip Mantle.
