Coast to Coast: UAPs and a Couple of Current Reports

First, I’d like to provide a little more insight into the government’s and by that, I mean the DNI’s that is the Director of National Intelligence, UAP high school level report. It was a superficial job and I have heard some defending it saying that there were only two people assigned to it on a parttime basis. I believe Congress required the report and I’d think that the DNI would have been able to provide more support for the investigation if he had wanted to do so. True, we haven’t seen the alleged classified version, but there is no real hint that they did anything other than look at the Navy’s and Air Force’s reports of 144 incidents. I’ll say again that I would have thought that a review of what has gone before, if only looking at the Project Blue Book files and the Condon Committee report would have provided some necessary insight. That is almost always the first step at the beginning of an academic research project.

Had this been left to me, I believe a review of the Blue Book index would have provided a few clues. Yes, the index contains only the bare bones of the reports, but then, it does provide information that would narrow the search. You could sort, manually, for physical evidence, radar, photographic or just look for those labeled as unidentified.

There are some very interesting cases listed as unidentified, such as the landing in Socorro witnessed by Lonnie Zamora, that would have provided a case with multiple chains of evidence that included landing impressions and burn marks. There are hints of additional witnesses who called the police before Zamora made his discovery.

But of even more importance, at least to those of us paying attention, is the way the Air Force investigated the sighting, proving that they were not overly interested in gathering evidence as opposed to suppressing it. I made that obvious in Encounter in the Desert, which is an in depth examination of the Socorro landing.

Even ignoring those sources of information because the cases are so old, there are many newer cases that provide some interesting insights.

On May 27, 2021, a man in White Hall, Illinois, said that he had looked out a window late at night and watched several lights move across the sky. He then saw a bright orange object with six or seven lights to the northeast. As he watched, the UFO suddenly shot up into the sky. He thought, originally, that it was cigar-shaped, but it looked more saucer shaped as it climbed out. He heard no sound.

Not really an impressive case with just a single witness. However, the next day he drove out into the field where the UFO had landed. There he found a circle in the wheat looking as if it had been pushed over without breaking the stems rather than crushed. Yes, there are photographs and so that everyone can see what the landing traces looked like. You can find the photographs here:

https://www.ufosnw.com/newsite/orange-craft-with-6-or-7-lights-takes-off-leaves-ground-trace/

And I thank William Puckett at his UFOSNW website for that information.

Please note that this took place on May 27, which means that it happened while the DNI was investigating UFOs. I suppose the answer will be that the DNI was interested in those sightings made by military personnel and had some photographic and sensor evidence of the UFO. And I suppose they will complain that the landing took place a little less than a month before the report was due. Of course, I don’t know how many times I’ve had to revise a book or posting because I suddenly had new information. That kind of goes with the territory. That case was not just a single witness, but there were also those landing traces.

On May 15 of this year, three people watched several bright balls of light heading northeast and then saw a large disk on the horizon. Through binoculars, the witness saw the disk had a row of windows on the side and that it didn’t appear to be rotating. There were multiple witnesses who used an optic device, that is, the binoculars, to study the object. The sighting lasted about four minutes and I mention this only because it happened in Randle, Washington, and they spelled Randle correctly.

Again, neither are spectacular, but they do provide a bit of favor as to what is going on today. Not as important as what the military is sighting, but important information might have been recovered had they bothered to take a look.

X-Zone Broadcast Network - Tom Whitmore

This week I talked with Tom Whitmore, a member of the MUFON broad of directors and a man who has been interested in the UFO phenomenon for decades. I had approached him because I knew that he had an interest in MJ-12 and I thought
Tom Whitmore
that we’d have an interesting discussion on that topic. You can listen to the program here:

I had mentioned the fatal flaw in the Eisenhower Briefing Document that proves that both the document and MJ-12 are hoaxes. You can read that analysis here:

MJ-12, of course, was not the only thing that we discussed. We actually began with the travesty that is known as Project Blue Book airing on History. Of all my colleagues in the UFO community, I don’t know of one who approves of the show… it is doing a great disservice to UFO research with its suggestions of cover-up, threats, and adding details that never happened to cases we all know. The post following this one goes into the reasons that this show has taken a nose dive.

After exploring this, we did talk about the real oversight committee and how it would have been formed. You can read about that here:

We eventually got around to President Jimmy Carter and his desire to declassify, or in the world today, disclose, the hidden information about UFOs. Daniel Sheehan, a lawyer who worked with Marcia Smith, had some inside knowledge about this. We did talk about Linda Moulton Howe who had seen a document that was alleged to have been used to brief President Carter about UFOs. I covered this at length in Case MJ-12. You can find the updated version of the book here:

Next week, I’ll be talking with Peter Davenport about his UFO Reporting Center. If you have questions, let me know in the comments section here. I’ll try to get them asked during the show.

X-Zone Broadcast Network - Bryan Sentes

In this Special Edition of A Different Perspective, I spoke with Bryan Sentes, who is known for his poetry, but who has a great grasp of the world of the UFO. It was a free-wheeling discussion that began with us talking about Project Blue Book on History and moving on to the Great Airship of 1897, to some of the modern topics. You can listen to it here:

Bryan Sentes
We did touch on one problem that has worried me for years and which Bryan had also thought about, which is that Airship stories mirror the modern ear of UFO sightings. All aspect of the various facets of Ufology show up in the Airship tales of 1897. These include cattle mutilations, crash retrievals, alien abduction and generic sightings of craft flying overhead, seen by dozens.
You can find his website here:

One sad thing, however. The by-play between us between segments was lost. We delved into some other topics including the best of Game of Thrones. He thought that early episodes, that were based on George R.R. Martin’s books were better than later episodes in which the show runners had to base the story on, well, what Martin had told them would happen… but, as they say, “I digress…”

This show was fun from the very beginning, and I plan to bring him back in the future.

Contrary to what I said early in the last segment, next week (April 10) I will be talking with Dr. Michael Masters, who, if the emails are any indication, should be as much fun. We’ll talk about his book, Identified Flying Objects and his time travel theory.

X-Zone Broadcast Network - Paul Hynek

In a change of pace, rather than interview, I chatted with Paul Hynek about History’s Project Blue Book. This all came about, as I have mentioned, because I wondered how the Hynek family was reacting to the program. Many of us thought that J. Allen Hynek would be upset by the way he was presented. Paul thought his father would sit there, a big bowl of popcorn in his lap, and enjoy what he was watching. You can listen to the show here:

https://www.spreaker.com/episode/16887709

The thing that came out in the discussion, was that the Hynek family, and some of us in the UFO community, understand that this is a drama and not a documentary. Paul took it a little farther than that, suggesting that it was put
Paul Hynek
together the way it is because of other considerations. For example, it is set in the early 1950s (though the timeline is certainly skewed) so that it would address some other issues including Russian meddling. While I don’t want to get dragged into political discussions here because that isn’t the purpose of the blog, I will note that there certainly is a tie in between the spying of the cold war and the meddling with public opinion today… and yes, I was more than a little careful with the wording to avoid those political discussions.

We did discuss some of Allen Hynek’s favorite cases. Paul mentioned the Socorro UFO landing specifically. He said that his father was impressed with Lonnie Zamora as a witness. I didn’t mention that there had been an opportunity to find additional witnesses in 1964 based on what Captain Holder, of the Army, had learned on the night of the landing. Nor did I mention that another sighting, in northern New Mexico, a day or so later was not investigated by Hynek, though, according to the record, he had requested permission to do so.

We also talked about David O’Leary, the creator of the series and Auturo Interian, who is a vice president at A&E, and directly involved in the show. Both men are well versed in the UFO field. In my communications with Interian, I have been impressed with his depth of knowledge that moves into some rather esoteric areas. In talking about some of the background, he mentioned the 4602d Air Intelligence Service Squadron, an organization that some of those deep into Ufology know nothing about.

Paul is of the opinion that even though Project Blue Book is very loosely based on real events, it does spark an interest in UFOs. If it moves some to explore the topic more deeply, or search for more information, then that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

You can listen to the interview and see what you all think about it. I should have the opportunity in the near future to interview some of the others involved with the show. If there are questions you’d like to hear answered, or short points that you’d like to make, append them here in the comments, and I’ll do what I can to get them answered.
