Committee on Oversight and Accountability Meeting November 13

Yes, I sat through the two hours and fifteen minutes (there about) of the Committee on Oversight and Accountability meeting about what is going on in the world of UAP. In the opening remarks by Nancy Mace, we are told that UAP demand attention (with which I think we all agree). Quoting a Colonel Carl, she said that there were non-humans interacting with us and that high-ranking people knew it. That is a somewhat provocative statement with which to open the hearing. Robert Garcia told us that the Main Stream Media is taking the matter seriously, or more seriously than in the past. He also noted that the hearings were about getting at the truth.

There were those on the committee who told us other things that we all knew. We were told that the allegations by David Grusch have not been verified. Although Garcia didn’t elaborate, he was referring to the claim that there had been twelve crash retrievals. We are told that some of the committee members, maybe all of them, want more legislation for the study of UAP and we all know how well congressional legislation has been in helping us get at the truth in the past.

I noticed that we get some history, or rather a mention of history when Jared Moskowitz said that investigations went back to 1945, which is probably a reference to the Foo Fighters of the Second World War.

Once all the members had a chance to make statements, the emphasis switched to the witnesses that were retired Rear Admiral Timothy Gallaudet, Lue Elizondo, Michael Shellenberger and Michael Gold. They were asked, in turn they thought of the UAP situation and all suggested something outside of our technological abilities existed, but not that it was necessarily from alien visitation.

Gallaudet said that while serving in the Navy, in a large-scale exercise, he received an email about the intrusion of unknown craft that seemed to be a danger to that exercise, specifically, the aviation assets that were being employed. The email, from a higher authority, wondered if there was some secret project, to which he knew nothing that might account for these intrusions and if they continued, they would cancel the exercise. Gallaudet said that the next day, the email was gone and in the after-action briefings, that concern was never mentioned… And, now, as far as I know, based on the testimony, there are no copies of the email offered in evidence.

I hadn’t expected much in this hearing, but Lue Elizondo did make several comments that were interesting. He said that UAP were real and that the US was in possession of UAP material, though he didn’t specify what that material might be, and that some foreign nations also had access to some form of alien material.

Once they got beyond the opening statements which seemed to include most of the free world, each member in attendance was given five minutes to ask questions or to pontificate. Here is where I thought we might get into the nuts and bolts of the situation but that somehow evaded us.

In the questions address to Gallaudet, especially those about the intrusions during the exercise, we learned nothing new. His answers to some of those questions was that he was prohibited from talking about specifics in a public forum. He would answer them in a closed session.

We had a similar experience with Elizondo. He mentioned that those answers he could give were in his book, which had been in review by officials in the Pentagon for more than year before it was published. He said there were crash retrievals, but he would only talk about them in a closed session.

Later in the hearings, Elizondo would mention bodies. He said bodies were collected before he was born. I believe this is a vague reference to the Roswell case, which is from July 1947. But he would also say that he couldn’t talk about retrievals in an open session.

Shellenberger, who was the source of the information about Immaculate Constellation, said that he trusted his sources on that information, but he wouldn’t reveal them. He said that were either still in he government or had been in the government, but not in which agencies they have worked. He also said that his sources had told him that the government was sitting on piles of information about UAP, including high resolution photographs and other material. But he wouldn’t say who these sources were, only that they were credible, based on his knowledge of who they were and his checking out their backgrounds.

Gold provided a good answer on why some of this information has been hidden. It could expose weaknesses in our capability to respond to the threats. That would be information that our adversaries in the world would want to have.

There is one point that I should make and here is probably the best place. There was a discussion that military personnel had been injured by UFOs and that those people were being compensated for those injuries. Once again, no names were offered, but I thought immediately of John Burroughs who had been injured during the Rendlesham Forest events of December 1980.

I also know of others who claimed they were injured by UFOs, including Betty Cash and Vickie Landrum, coincidentally during their sighting of a glowing, diamond-shaped object also in December 1980. Neither of the women were compensated by the government.

This provides a short rundown on what went on in those two hours and fifteen minutes of hearing. When one committee member said that those on the committee who wanted additional information and didn’t know where to begin to look for it (and I sympathize with them on that point), he was told that the information could be discussed in a closed session.

My problem was that we learned nothing new, there were no sources named or documents presented, other than one that was so heavily redacted that it was useless*, and all the information was second hand at best. I have said before and I’ll say it again, Don Schmitt, Tom Carey and I have talked to the men and women who had first-hand knowledge. We can name names and have taped, both audio and video, of these witnesses.

There were some positives that came out of the hearing. I mean, here was a hearing about UAP with suggestions of an off-world presence, observed technology that was beyond our means to create, an interest in the topic by the Main Stream Media that was not wrapped in ridicule, and a suggestion that an unbiased, scientific investigation was needed.  

The members of the committee seemed to be interested in the topic and were searching for answers rather than attempting to misrepresent the situation and taking the discussion into areas that have nothing to do with the problem. All the witnesses, who were under oath, when asked, answered that they believed, based on their person experiences that the answer was alien visitation or that they didn’t know what the answer might be. There didn’t seem to be anyone who ridiculed the idea that we have been visited alien creatures.

There was a suggestion that the stigma be removed from reporting of UAP because, to solve the problem, the information must be received by those who can use it. If people are afraid to report what they have seen or experienced, then no research can be conducted and we solve no problems.

In reality, this hearing was what I expected, long on suggestion but short on evidence. Too many times, the answer to a specific question was that the witness couldn’t talk about it in an open hearing, or that his sources would not be revealed. There was nothing that we, on the outside, could do to learn more, no real cases that we could study because we don’t have the necessary information, and a little too much speculation. I can’t say that I was disappointed in the hearing because I didn’t expect it to reveal very much.

Or, as my good friend from Operation Iraqi Freedom would say after many staff meetings, “There is two hours and fifteen minutes that I won’t get back.”

*Stan Friedman used to show a heavily redacted report that contained only one or two words per page. When the whole document was eventually released, we learned it had little to do with UFO research and a great deal to do with intelligence collections methods. 

Immaculate Constellation, Moon Dust, and Sean Kirkpatrick

 

There have been several interesting developments recently into what the officials insist are UAP reports and what we still think of as UFOs. All this provides us, indirectly, with additional information about Immaculate Constellation and ongoing covert investigations.

According to Matthew Phelan, the Senior Science Reporter for the Daily Mail, Dr. Sean Kirkpatrick, who was until recently the man in charge of AARO, revealed what he described as a new government program to recover alleged alien technology in the event of a shoot down. I believe he mentioned shoot down in reference to the Chinese balloon that flew over a great deal of North America recently. I don’t think he was referring to shooting down an alien spacecraft, though in the 1950s, there were orders to do just that.

Anyway, the retrieval program’s protocols covered what he called UAP recoveries that ranged from balloons to alien technology. This, it was claimed, is the first time that a government official acknowledged any UFO retrieval program, even if that retrieval program referred to terrestrially manufactured objects. He suggested the retrieval program began early in 2023.

But there was a program called Moon Dust that began in 1957, according to documents recovered by Robert Todd, Cliff Stone and me, that had, as one of its missions, and I quote, “to collect and analyze raw intelligence reports from the field of fallen space debris and objects of unknown origin.” Unknown origin certainly could refer to craft from off world.

I found this information in an official US Air Force Message, #54322 and dated December 23, 1957. Although it doesn’t mention Moon Dust specifically, it is clear from the document that it is describing Moon Dust and the Moon Dust mission involving UFO information.

Kirkpatrick said, “AARO is Congressionally directed to come up with not just standard reporting procedures, but also mitigation and response procedures in the event of a shoot down or a collection of any sort of UAP.”

But, as earlier documentation proves, that sort of mandate had already been put into place and despite Air Force original denials that no program known as Moon Dust existed, the documentation proved otherwise. And for those who claim that its mission was directed at recovering what was then Soviet debris, the mention of unknown origin suggests otherwise. I should point out here, that I can demonstrate the UFO connection to Moon Dust. While examining the Project Blue Book files several years ago, I found reference to Moon Dust cases. The cases are not very impressive, but are important because they are labeled “Moon Dust” and reinforce the theory that Moon Dust had a UFO component. You can read about that here:

I want to acknowledge that the Air Force, when asked about Moon Dust by US Senator Jeff Bingaman from New Mexico, the Air Force response was that no such program existed. When documents, with a clear and established provenance were provided, the Air Force amended the statement claimed that it did exist, but had never been deployed. That was not true as other documents proved. There was an added note that the name Moon Dust had been changed and it was properly classified. That was in 1985. From that point on, there had been no inadvertent disclosures about this program.

There is another, important point. There no evidence that this program under whatever the new name it had been given, had been terminated. We can’t use FOIA because we don’t know the name in use after Moon Dust, and Immaculate Constellation didn’t begin until years after this other long ongoing program was discovered. Immaculate Constellation is not a follow-on project, but a new one invented by those now charged with UAP research.

But you have to wonder if this new program doesn’t have a secondary purpose and that is to disguise what had been learned under Moon Dust and that follow-on project. You don’t look for another program if you have been told that this is something that began in 2023.

While these government officials who have just been tasked with dealing with UAP, who have tried to sever this new investigation from the history of UFO research, and seem to be disinterested in that earlier history, aren’t attempting to sidetrack legitimate questions about alien visitation. They’re looking at it as a new phenomenon rather than something that it over eighty years old. They don’t need to worry about the massive stacks of evidence that was accumulated prior to 2017 when the Leslie Kean and Ralph Fromental story was published by the New York Times. That earlier information is hidden behind a thick national security wall and what we are allowed to see now just doesn’t have the impact of some of those earlier UFO events.

Immaculate Constellation - My Analysis

 

Last night, on my normal UFO segment on Coast-to-Coast AM, I mentioned something called Immaculate Constellation, which, according to a whistleblower, who is never identified, is a top-secret archive of UFO, well, UAP images. According to the whistleblower, the military and intelligence community are operating a database of videos and images taken from "infrared (IR), forward-looking infrared (FLIR), full motion video (FMV), and still photography of UAPs.

The whistleblower alleged that the Department of Defense created Immaculate Constellation under what's known as an Unacknowledged Special Access Program (USAP) in 2017 after The New York Times reported on an informal Pentagon UAP program known as AATIP.

Reporter Michael Shellenberger of Public said on "Joe Rogan Experience" that in the whistleblower's report, the Pentagon is "illegally" hiding information about this program from Congress.

The whistleblower said that simply printing the name "Immaculate Constellation" could trigger government surveillance of whoever publishes the name using the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act as probable cause. They won't comment on it, but talking about it will put you in the danger zone. I guess that means I am now in the “Danger Zone,” which sounds like a good name for a podcast or a rock band. BTW: Agents, if you come for me, please don’t crash through the door. I’ll happily open it for you.

DoD spokeswoman Sue Gough, who has been called on many times as UFO and UAP questions are asked, denied on Wednesday, any knowledge of a special access program known as Immaculate Constellation. I’m not sure that this is relevant because if it was a special access program which would also suggest a need to know and she might not have been in the loop. Would a spokeswoman, or spokesman for that matter, be read into every highly classified program? If they are not then they have plausible deniability, meaning that she can say such things as having no knowledge of a program and be telling the truth. Doesn’t mean the program doesn’t exist, only that she doesn’t know about it.

I am reminded that when the Moon Dust was inadvertently revealed in 1986, the Air Force denied that such a program existed. When shown official documents with the name Moon Dust on them, a higher-ranking Air Force officer said Moon Dust did exist but had not been used. Other documents refuted that claim as well. The point is that the first officer, Lieutenant Colonel John E. Madison, of the Congressional Inquiry Division, Office of Liaison, wrote, “There is no agency, nor has there ever been, at Fort Belvoir, Viriginia, which would deal with UFOs or have any information about the incident in Roswell. In addition, there is no Project Moon Dust or Operation Blue Fly. Those missions have never existed.”

Most of what Madison wrote was the truth. There may well not have been any agency at Fort Belvoir that dealt with UFOs or Roswell, which, course, doesn’t mean that such agencies might not exist at other installations. And he is accurate in saying there is no Project Moon Dust because Moon Dust was the code words dealing with UFO material.

So, Madison wasn’t lying, he just didn’t have access to all the information he needed to properly answer the questions put to him. However, when the documents were presented and properly vetted, meaning the source of the documents was legitimate, Colonel George M. Mattingley, Jr., wrote, “…Upon further review of the case (which was aided by the several attachments to Mr. Stone’s letter), we wish to amend the statements contained in the previous response…”

The point is that even people at the highest levels aren’t read into all programs and a denial by Gough that she had no knowledge of such a program doesn’t mean there is no such program.

The real problem here is that Shellenberger has not identified his source. Years ago, decades really, we were presented with documents suggesting a cover up of the Roswell UFO crash. These papers, known as MJ-12, appeared at the home of a UFO researcher. Well, photographic film arrived and when developed, revealed the existence of a special group known as MJ-12 to exploit and direct the recovery of the Roswell UFO.

The trouble with these documents was that we didn’t know who had sent them. We didn’t know where they originated. Finally, we didn’t have the originals which could have been tested. What good would it do to test the paper on which they were printed? We all know that it was photographic paper.

Investigation into the information provided by the MJ-12 documents suggested they had been created in 1984 rather than 1952 as alleged on the documents. In 1984, there was a believe that the Del Rio UFO crash, which in the MJ-12 documents, is mentioned as El Indio-Guerrero crash. But there is no evidence and the lone witness changed so much about it over the years, that it is clear that it was invented. You can read one analysis of the case here:

The point is that originally the MJ-12 documents caused a stir not only in the UFO community but among the news media and those interested in UFOs. Investigation revealed the flaws and the major flaw was we didn’t know the original source. Without that, we were left with an interesting aside into the possibility of a cover up. Eventually, nearly everyone agreed that the documents were a hoax and that was underscored by the lack of the original source.

That’s where we are with Immaculate Constellation. We have no source and we don’t even have copies of documents suggesting there is something to the claims. At least, MJ-12 had documents, which led to the revelation that it was a hoax. For an in depth analysis see Case MJ-12: Updated.

I’ll note here that for years Stan Friedman held up several documents that related to UFOs that were nearly all redacted. There were only one or two words on a page that could be read. This was proof of the cover up. However, we now have the unredacted versions of those documents and realize that the missing information had nothing to do with UFOs but with intelligence collection methods in certain parts of the world. That information would have been of value to our competitors in the world and was rightly redacted. This merely shows that sometimes, we over react to government secrecy.

We can look to whistleblower David Grusch. He talked of high-level, important people who told him about UFO crashes, but he supplied no names. I can deduce some of those names and while they had once held important posts in the government or were respected scientists, that didn’t say anything about Grusch’s sources other than we have the names. Didn’t prove what they had told Grush, or that Grush overheard, was accurate information, only that they might have said it.

I point all this out because we now have more information about an important government program hidden from the public which, supposedly hides information about UFOs or rather UAP. But we have no way of vetting the information. We have no way of finding corroboration. We just must believe the stories told by this unidentified source. And I ask, “Why?”

Here's something else that hasn’t been considered and that is that this collection of UFO images might not have a thing to do with alien visitation, but is, instead, images of terrestrial craft that have been flying around various locations in the US. It might be that the images are held in secrecy because revelation of them might provide information of intelligence value to our competitors. In other word, national security might have raised its ugly head.

I could go on about other great stories circulating or circulated in the UFO field that intrigued and excited people inside and outside the UFO community that blew up when we finally were able to get to the sources.

Right now, I can’t verify that Immaculate Constellation exists, but then I can’t reject the tale either because the evidence to do that doesn’t yet exist. I can only caution against drawing any concrete conclusions now because we simply don’t have enough information to just either way to justify any conclusion.

The July 26 Congressional Hearing

 

For those interested, yes, I did sit through the whole UFO, I mean UAP, Congressional Hearing. And, no, unlike so many of my colleagues, I was unimpressed. I heard and saw nothing new here. I knew days ago, who the witnesses would be, and hoped that some of David Grusch’s sources would be revealed. With hints about sources, we could have begun the process of verification but without them, we just have some interesting tales that might be more fiction than fact.

Here are some of the things that I noticed. There was a great deal of talk about transparency, but little talk about sources, sightings or results. There was a great deal of talk about national security, and most of us could figure out what that meant. Revelation that the US was in possession of alien spacecraft, or rather proof of that, could certainly affect national security. Our competitors in world would fear what we might learn about the operation of alien spacecraft and what sort of an advantage that would give us.

Commander David Fravor, the Navy pilot involved with the tic-tac sighting said, “Yes, and here’s why. The technology we faced was far superior to anything that we had… if you have one and you reversed engineered one, you could go into space, go someplace, drop down in a matter of seconds and do whatever it wants and leaves and there is nothing we can do about it.”

Grothman asked about what kind of information is being hidden. Grusch, the alleged whistleblower said, “I can speak to that briefly in an unclassified matter…” But said nothing that he hadn’t said before and offered nothing in the way of evidence for his opinion.

Grusch was the one I wanted to hear and he was asked, finally, about the US having UAPs (he meant alien spacecraft) and said, “Absolutely, after interviewing over 40 witnesses over four years, I know the exact locations and those locations were supplied to the Inspector General… I actually had some people with first-hand knowledge provide protected disclosure to the Inspector General…”

Which, of course, told us nothing that we didn’t know. As I have said, repeatedly, Don Schmitt, Tom Carey and I have talked with first-hand witnesses and we didn’t suggest it was information that couldn’t be shared in an open forum. We named names, cited locations, and even have some documentation related to all this.

Representative Tim Burchett asked if anyone had been harmed and Grusch said, “Yes, personally.” But it seemed that he was referring to interference with his job and bullying by his superiors. He said, “It was very brutal and very unfortunate, some of the tactics used to hurt me both professionally and personally.”

Again, Don, Tom and I have interviewed many people who reported they had been threatened. We specifically mentioned threats related to the Roswell UFO crash that included members of the military, the sheriff and several civilians. All documented in the various books that include names and dates. Just this month, I reviewed one of those cases when I spoke to Tim Saunders about what his father, Patrick Saunders had told him. Burchett asked if he knew of anyone having been murdered. Grusch said, “I have to be careful answering that question. I directed people with the that knowledge to the appropriate authorities.” He said he was willing to discuss this in a closed environment, but gave us no hints about who that might have been killed, when the murder or murders might have happened, and where the investigation now stood.

Grusch continued in this vein throughout the hearing. He was asked for specifics, provided none, but suggested he would get into that in closed hearings. So much for transparency.

Representative Jared Moskowitz asked if he, Grusch, had met with people with a direct knowledge of non-human craft. Grusch said that he had personally interviewed those individuals. Again, Don, Tom, and I can say the same thing, citing specific generals and colonels, all of whom can be placed in positions to have witnessed these things. We talked with former counterintelligence agents (later Air Force OSI agents who had direct knowledge). We have also talked with civilians who had specific and direct knowledge such as Bill Brazel.

Moskowitz followed up by asking about crash sites and crash imagery. Grusch said, “I can’t go beyond what I have already stated publicly.” I thought that was a nice dodge of the question. This was the sort of thing that interested me, but each time someone had approached specifics, the answer was the same. Can’t go into it beyond what he had already said.

In what was an important question that I think was missed by many, Rep. Burchett asked about when the US became aware of these alien craft. Grusch said, “I like to use the term non-human (who really cares what you like). I don’t like to denote origin. It keeps the aperture open both scientifically and (he trailed off here and didn’t finish that thought)” and then said, “Like I have discussed publicly, the 1930s.”

This is a reference to the 1933 Italian crash, which colleagues in Italy have said is a hoax. I will note that even if true, the US wouldn’t have learned about it until the mid-1940s. I did a longer post on it and you can read it here:

Now we come to the nitty gritty. Burchett asked for the names and the titles of the people with direct first-hand knowledge about crash retrievals. And Grusch said, ‘I can’t discuss that publicly, but I did provide that information to both the intel committees and the Inspector General.”

This was what I had waited for. Names, organizations, maybe even a date or two but Grusch provided nothing other than that vague reference to the 1930s. He had said all this before.

While Ryan Graves, the other Navy pilot talked about interviewing some thirty other pilots about their encounters (without providing any names) he did mention a big sighting at Edwards Air Force Base by Boeing engineers and contractors. I mention this only because I didn’t want to leave him out. He was the third witness who didn’t add much to what we already knew about his experiences.

I suppose I should mention that I had written, in The Washington Nationals, a book about the sightings of UFOs over Washington, D.C., information about pilot sightings at that time, including interviews with Air Force pilots involved in attempted intercepts of UFOs. Again, complete with names, locations and other source material.

And, of course, the Project Blue Book files are filled with the names of pilots who had reported UFOs. Since the end of Blue Book, hundreds of other pilots have reported seeing UFOs. In fact, I interviewed a man who had been an alternative pilot on Air Force One during the Kennedy administration who told me that he had seen a domed disk flying off the wing of his fighter in the years before he had flown Air Force One.

Finally, I mention this only because it was so jarring. Representative Eric Burlison wondered how these craft could travel billions of light years and then crash. It seemed to boggle his mind that a race that could conquer interstellar flight would end up crashing. Of course, they really didn’t have to travel billions of light years. The closest star system to Earth is a mere 4.1 light years away. And yes, the technology that would allow travel across that distance is still beyond our capability but his point was irrelevant.

In the end, we heard more about transparency and national security, and there were even some questions about black funding that had little to do with the purpose of the hearing. We didn’t get any specifics that we didn’t already have and we learned nothing that we didn’t already know… except that Grusch sticks with the 1933 Italian crash. Someone should tell him that it might just be a hoax and he should forget about it.

David Grusch and the Latest Crash Retrieval Story

 

By now nearly everyone interested in UFOs, or rather UAPs, has heard about the latest revelations that the US Government has recovered not only alien artifacts, but apparently intact craft and the bodies of the pilots killed in UFO crashes. There are those who say this is the first time that anything like this has received positive public scrutiny, and all is backed up with endorsements by high-ranking military and government officials who are the same ones who have been making claims for years or who are not all that high ranking.

David Charles Grusch, who has some interesting credentials, has been interviewed by several journalists, who also have some interesting credentials, saying that there is evidence suggesting a secret program to recover the UFO material. We do know of a program called Moon Dust, that was originally hidden behind a curtain of classification, that had the mission of recovering unknown objects that have fallen to Earth that are of either foreign manufacture or unknown origin. This project, however, was not highly classified and operated in various government agencies including the Department of State. My book, cleverly called Project Moon Dust covers a great deal of that material, including reporting on the retrieval of many of these objects.

In fact, Air Force Brigadier General C. H. Bolander made a statement in 1969 that said, “Reports of unidentified flying objects which could affect national security… are not part of the Blue Book system... [and] should continue to be handled through the standard Air Force procedure designed for this purpose.” He meant that some sightings were not reported to Project Blue Book, the official and publicly identified entity responsible for UFO investigation. This then, could be interpretated as evidence of a secret investigation that was not known to the public, which is indirect confirmation of what Grusch has claimed.

Grusch was adamant that there are several craft, intact, and that the bodies of the pilots were recovered. Unfortunately, and one thing that we need to remember, is that he said he had not seen these himself but was telling what others he respected told him. He said there were documents, but those were not available at the moment. This is the same problem that has plagued such claims for decades.

I did talk to Daniel Sheehan, a lawyer who consulted for a time with the Carter Administration, who said that he too, had seen photographs of downed craft with American military personnel on the site and related, highly classified documents. That interview was reported in UFOs and the Deep State.

I mention those two books because, my research tends to validate some of what Grusch said. But we’re in the same place without the documents or photographs of the debris that we have always found ourselves. I have talked with people who claimed insider status, but who are reluctant to go on the record but talked of secret studies and investigations and recovered artifacts.

This is not the first time that someone has suggested evidence of a secret government program to gain some attention by the main stream media. However, in the past, those claims have never been proven and some of the documentation has been discredited by members of the UFO community.

In the mid-1980s, the media, the UFO community, and most of the United States were fascinated to learn of something called Majestic Twelve or MJ-12. The proponents, who had received several documents anonymously through the mail, alleged that the MJ-12 was a highly placed group of scientists, military officers and government officials who were responsible for the investigation of a UFO recovered outside of Roswell, New Mexico and other alleged crashes.

Those proponents were seen on various TV shows including Nightline, were the subject of a two-hour nationally broadcast documentary that described the whole MJ-12 operation, and were interviewed by countless newspaper reporters. There was very little initial skepticism because they had the documents to show, including a letter or memo written by and signed by then president Harry Truman. Although the coverage was initially positive, it was later shown that MJ-12 and all the subsequent documents were faked. There is also a section on the Majestic War Plan, a real document that was code named Majestic but that has nothing to do with the MJ-12 or alien spacecraft but does suggest a real problem. There wouldn’t be two separate programs using the same classified code word because of the obvious confusion that would create. The Majestic war plan has a known provenance but the MJ-12 documents have none.

And another worldwide sensation that received positive media coverage was the announcement that several cans of black and white movie footage had been found that showed the autopsy of an alien being. There were claims that some of the footage showed President Truman on the UFO crash site. This was going to blow the lid off the whole UFO question.

Documentaries were prepared about the footage. Most of those documentaries provided little in the way of critical content. In a press conference held in London, attended by reporters and other interested parties from around the world, some of that footage was shown. Naturally, there were critics, but they were mostly ignored because there was actual film footage shown and a promise that more would becoming.

It was later revealed to be a hoax, with those who had created the alien creature providing photographs that showed the creation of the creatures. But the real point is that, in the beginning, those making the claims had something besides the second-hand statements of a man with good credentials. You can read more about the alien autopsy here:

The definitive book on this is Philip Mantle’s Roswell Alien Autopsy. Given his sources, it pretty well ends the discussion.

Or the latest of the worldwide UFO phenomena with a promise of absolute proof including photographs of the alien bodies was announced just a few years ago. This was big news on the world stage for several months with the promise that all would be revealed. The story was that two people, from Midland, Texas, had been friends with President Eisenhower and he had allowed them to not only see the bodies of the beings killed in the Roswell crash, but allowed them to photograph them.

In the beginning, a very poor photo was released online, as sort of a teaser to the big presentation to be held in Mexico City. It was to be streamed live throughout the world, and interest was high for weeks prior to the presentation.

In the end, it was all hype and little else. When we finally saw a high-quality photograph, it took only hours to identify it as an unfortunate child who had died several hundred years ago. You can learn more about it here:

Although this post has a long list of other articles about the Roswell Slides, this one post might provide the best evidence against that whole sad saga. Just type Roswell Slides into the search engine for a more comprehensive list. And, of course, Roswell in the 21^st Century has a long analysis of the situation.

In other words, I’m cautious about all this latest interest from the whistleblower and would like to see some evidence other than second-hand statements before I climb out on a limb. As shown, we have been down this road before, and in many of those cases, there was some form of physical evidence attached to the claims being made. It might be in the form of documents, or it might be film of an alien being undergoing a rather cavalier autopsy, but it was something more than one man with good credentials making claims that can’t be backed up at this point.

Here's the thing. Too many of us want to believe, so we are sometimes blinded to the flaws in the story. I have talked to a general, who wished to remain anonymous, who said that the Roswell story was true. He had seen the evidence. Now, why would he risk his career to make a statement like that? I don’t know, but I heard him say it.

While two reputable journalists have reported on the story and the Grasch has been vetted, the point is that he has offered nothing in the way of corroborative evidence. He has promised it is out there but this is not the time to reveal it. So, I report on what has been said, I note that this is not the first time this has happened, and I wait patiently for the evidence to be presented. Until then, this tale joins all the others we have been fed over the years. Without the corroborative evidence, all we really have is an interesting story told by a man who has offered no evidence and that many of us want to believe.

Coast to Coast AM: UAP, UFO History and Current Sightings

As those of you who visit here know, I’m not a fan of the term UAP. I think it is an attempt to disassociate the idea of alien visitation from the observations made by military personnel. I think we all need to reject it simply because it denies the history. But. I have a document dated 1949, while the Air Force was struggling with the term flying saucers. It uses the phrase Unidentified Aerial Phenomena to describe, well, a flying saucer. I found it interesting that we have actually returned to one of the original descriptors of the flying saucers yet are using it to reject the history of them.

And speaking of history, on one of the UFO lists that provides me with interesting information there was a query from one of the list members. Vicente-Juan Ballester Olmos wrote to ask for help about a UFO seen during the Belgium UFO wave. According to the information, on June 26, 1989, the witness and his wife saw a strange, globe-shaped object with four landing gear. The witness was a mechanical engineer and was reported to be quite credible. His wife saw the UFO as well, and Olmos asked if anyone knew of other sightings with a similar object.

Moving to a more current report, the witness and his wife were sitting outside at their home in Jeffrey’s Bay, South Africa, at about 6:30 on May 18 of this year when an odd-looking object glided over them from west to east. The object consisted of about 20 square lights on each side in two straight parallel lines. They estimated it to be one kilometer in length. He said he could not tell whether it was in space or in our atmosphere. They both got their cameras, but could not film the UFO. He said he had never seen something so large in space. It took about 3 minutes to cross the sky. He said they spend quite a bit time in the evening sitting outside and always look for satellites and shooting stars, suggesting some knowledge about what is in the sky around them.

I mention this sighting only because it reminded me of the sighting by Clyde Tombaugh, a reputable astronomer who discovered Pluto. On August 20, 1949, Tombaugh and his wife were in the backyard. He wrote, “I happened to be looking up… admiring the beautiful transparent sky of stars, when suddenly I spied a geometrical group of faint bluish-green rectangles of light similar to the Lubbock Lights… As the group moved south-southeasterly, the individual rectangles became foreshortened, their space in formation smaller and their intensity duller, fading from view about 35 degrees above the horizon.”

Tombaugh said that he thought they were individual lights but his wife suggested they were on a larger object. Donald Menzel, the Harvard UFO debunker, said it was probably lights from the windows of other houses reflecting on the nonexistent haze, but Tombaugh disagreed because the night was clear without a hint of haze. Since Menzel wasn’t there and Tombaugh was, I accept Tombaugh’s denial of the alleged identification.

Finally, on April 21 of this year a man in Evansdale, Iowa, photographed a cigar-shaped craft that was in sight for about a minute. He said that his daughter first saw the UFO and asked him what it was. He thought she meant something on the ground, and then looked up to see the UFO. He took two photos of it, along with a short video as you can see.

As usual, with many of these current sightings, I have not had the opportunity to completely vet the photographs. There is not evidence of a hoax here but that doesn’t mean we’re looking at an alien spacecraft. That is something that we all need to remember when looking at these sightings.

By coincidence, I had scheduled an interview with Philip Mantle before I learned about the open hearing about UFOs, I mean UAPs, that was held on May 17. We both watched that hearing and spent the first part of the show talking about our impressions of it. Again, I was not very impressed with that hearing and Philip had the same general reaction. has written about his experiences in 1973 when he and Charles Hickson were abducted while fishing. I knew, based on the investigation that Philip and Dr. Irene Scott had conducted, that the witness base had expanded. This sort of thing is always worrisome when it comes about decades after the fact and I mentioned that to Philip.

Turns out that there were many witnesses to the blue, glowing object near the river that night that had been reported by Parker. Philip and Irene had talked to many of these witnesses, gathering more corroborative evidence. I, of course, am always a little skeptical of witnesses showing up long after the event. Here, however, not only were they interviewing the witnesses in our modern world, but they had evidence of those witnesses involvement in 1973. As I say, you can listen to Philip discuss this and verifying that many of the witnesses were interviewed in 1973. There is solid documentation to back that up. Makes the case just that much stronger.

Coast to Coast - Open Hearings of UFOs and a Couple of Pictures

 

Anyone who has been paying attention knows that I have little faith that the new emphasis on investigations into UFO or UAP sightings will generate much in the way of increased information. We have been told that sightings by military personnel will be born classified, meaning that the information will not be freely available. And we have been told that the investigations will concentrate on those military sightings.

However, on next Tuesday, May 17, according to the latest information, there will be a briefing that will focus on last year’s briefing of 144 reports with 143 of them remaining unexplained.

Here’s the interesting thing about this. The House Intelligence Committee’s subcommittee on Counterterrorism, Counter Intelligence and Counterproliferation will hold the hearing that will be followed by a classified hearing by the Airborne Object Identification and Management Synchronization Group (AOIMSG). This a ridiculous name that does more to obscure than to explain. In the past there have been much better names but, in the world today, if it isn’t overly complicated, well, it just isn’t worth the effort.

And, all this doesn’t bode well because it seems the unclassified event has little relevance to UFOs and the part that would deal directly with the UFOs is classified. That, of course, is my reading based on limited information. There could well be an examination of some of the UFO (I detest the name UAP) that has been collected, but I suspect the national security blanket will be thrown around.

Adam Schiff said that the hearing would “give the public an opportunity to hear directly from subject matter experts and leaders in the Intelligence Community on one of the greatest mysteries of our time and to break the cycle of excessive secrecy and speculation with truth and transparency.”

I do wonder who these “subject matter experts” are. Will they be the same ones that have been talking about UFOs recently, or are they going to bring in someone who has been around the field for a long time (Jerry Clark and Mike Swords spring to mind here) … and will they be skeptical or from the other side of the fence? Depending on your point of view, it would be very simple to select the subject matter experts based not on their dispassionate research, but someone who had the proper orientation. Governmental transparency is a tricky thing. All we have to look at other governmental committee investigations and we can see the agenda of those who are participating.

I have to say, while Schiff might believe that, I don’t believe it will happen, given past experience. Project Sign, in 1948, was supposed to be a high priority investigation, but the Air Force Chief of Staff didn’t like some of the conclusions drawn and the project basically died. Ed Ruppelt came in with orders to revitalize the investigation, which he did, but the Robertson Panel of 1953 convinced both the military and civilian leadership that there was nothing to UFOs. The Air Force sponsored University of Colorado study was supposed to be unbiased and scientific, but it was compromised from the very beginning by bias and a lack of science. What happened was a real desire to find answers in the beginning eventually degenerated into public relations and explanations that make no logical sense. The Levelland sightings, spread over multiple witnesses and locations were eventually explained by ball lightning… something that scientists still wonder if truly exists.

But, as always, there are still interesting sightings to report from the last two months. On April 22 of this year, the witness, in Orlando, Florida, reported that she had set multiple hunting trackers which have produced a number of UFO photos. She said that she watched an alien climb into his spacecraft. She said that he allowed her to take photographs of his ship, but apparently none of him. The ship is dull black and slightly larger than a jet fighter.

She said that the alien is monitoring our space program. She said that the alien can jam cell phone signals to prevent a video. She also mentioned that the government has flown in to talk to her. And yes, I am somewhat reluctant to report this, but the report is real. I don’t want to make the mistake the Air Force did by rejecting nearly all reports of alien creatures as a psychological problem on the part of the witness. As the old prospector said, you don’t expect to find gold but that shouldn’t stop you from looking. The question here is whether or not the observations are real but there is the photo that can be seen here.

On another note, is a photo from Vista, California on March 17 of this year. The witness was playing golf at the Vista Valley Golf Course when he sighted a circular object with a vertical fin. The UFO was a flat, circular craft with the back quarter cut off. There was no sound and he used a four-power rangefinder to get a better look at it. He took four pictures of it before it disappeared behind the hills.

The UFO is barely visible next to the tree on the hill on the horizon.
